5 Reasons Why American Pharoah Will Lose the Belmont Stakes, Not Win a Triple Crown
There are a number of reasons why American Pharoah could lose Saturday’s Belmont Stakes race and thus be deprived of the first Triple Crown victory in nearly 40 years.
Reason Number 5: Suspect Odds - With odds set at -138 at BetDSI.com, American Pharoah is hardly a “lock” by any stretch of the imagination. Make no mistake about it, the oddsmakers are way sharper than any of us when it comes to posting these lines. If American Pharoah were a guarantee to win he’s be over -300 odds by now.
Reason Number 4: The Ahmed Zayat Effect – There has been a great deal of negative press surrounding American Pharoah’s owner, brought on primarily as a result of alleged gambling debts he owes totaling close to $2 million. With all the hoopla surrounding Zayat’s “misleading” statements in regard to attending Harvard, his past issues with a particular bank, lawsuits, and what not, the thing that might really stand out for gamblers is the conspiracy theory involving Zayat and 2009 phenom Rachel Alexandra.
Ahmed Zayat, the owner of Pioneerof the Nile, admitted that Allen, the owner of Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, had called him and that they had discussed trying to block the filly from the Preakness, saying, "This is all about business. This is about stallions."
All business! Who knows what shadowy figures are lurking out there that want American Pharoah to lose this race with the promise of “erasing any debts”.
Yeah, yeah….we know, that’s just a conspiracy theory but it’s one that will be weighing on the minds of some of the sharper gamblers we are being told.
If anyone can ensure American Pharoah will lose – and we highly doubt this would happen – it is Ahmed Zayat.
We know the books are going to get hit hard if American Pharoah does pull off the victory.
Conspiracy theorists will be betting against American Pharoah for sure.
Reason Number 3: The Todd Pletcher Effect – Pletcher loves spoiling other horses dreams at the Belmont Stakes. He’s recorded two wins and four second-place finishes among his 18 starters. American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert has endured his share of heart breaks at the Belmont.
Reason Number 2: Madefromlucky Looks to Mimic Tonalist’s Success – Madefromlucky in some ways resembles last year’s Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist. Both won the Peter Pan at Belmont heading into this race. Neither ran the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
Reason Number 1: No Triple Crown In Nearly 40 Years – Not since Affirmed did it in 1978 has a horse won the Triple Crown. It’s simply not easy winning three big races in just over a month’s time. American Pharoah ran his heart out at the Preakness Stakes in the mud and he’ll be facing fresher legs in this race.
All that said, we believe American Pharoah will win the Triple Crown.
