Cancelled Big Bet at Del Mar Just Before Race Leads to Probe

An individual who placed five $1000 win bets on Tale of a Champion at Del Mar Race Track Saturday then cancelled said wagers just minutes prior to post time has resulted in a probe by Del Mar officials as well as the California Horse Racing Board, and TVG, through which the wager was placed and then canceled.

Tale of a Champion was returning to the race following a two-year absence.  He was the favorite at 3-5 odds in early betting and 2-1 just minutes before the race.  Tale of a Champion would ultimately go on to finish last.

A report claims that the gambler in question cancelled all five bets just two minutes prior to the race.  He did not place any additional bets.  It was also noted that the customer “occasionally cancels wagers, but not disproportionately when comparing to his overall activity.”
