Red Hot Fighting Illini

Coming into Week 10, the Illinois Fighting Illini had quietly gone 7-1 Straight Up (6-2) Against The Spread having beaten Nebraska in Week 9. Their only loss was to Indiana by just three points.

They've since beaten Iowa (in a 9-6 shootout) and Wisconsin as well as Minnesota (26-14).

They'll face off against Missouri in what should be a Fighting Illini victory as they're coming in at -16.5.

Week 7 vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Illinois opened as a +3.5 underdog and the line had shot up to +6.5.  We got a number of Minnesota 1.13, indicating an overlay of 2.5 to 5.5.

Texas A&M +3 to +3.5 Miss State (home favorite covers and wins by 20) Miss State 1.23  Overlay 2.

Purdue +3.5 to +3 Maryland (road dog Purdue covers and wins by 2) Maryland 0.46 Overlay of 2.5 to 3.

Week 6 vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

This one had Iowa +3.5 on the road against Illinois and the dog just barely covered with the Fighting Illini winning 9-6.  There was an overlay of 1.5 on this game.

It was the backup kicker's field goal that won this for Illinois.

Walk-on kicker Fabrizio Pinton hit a 36-yard field goal with 2:46 to go and Matthew Bailey made a late interception to lift Illinois for the victory.

Illinois (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) is off to its best start since a 6-0 mark in 2011. The Illini also has wins against Iowa and Wisconsin in the same season for the first time since 1989.
