Doyle Brunson Tweets Over Bruce Jenner Transition to a Woman Make TMZ

TMZ.com has featured the legendary poker pro Doyle Brunson on its home page following a series of tweets the Texas Dolly made about Olympian Bruce Jenner’s transition to a woman, confirmed over the weekend after months of speculation.

Brunson tweeted:

Bruce's transition to a woman was confirmed today. He may still be some peoples hero, but not me.

Brunson tweeted, "I can't believe Bruce Jenner is trying to become a woman? He was a hero of mine since I was involved in track long ago. #Sayitsnottrue"

Doyle continued, "this man was an Olympic champion that set all kind of records. That's a woman? My hero? Come on!"

A good number of reader comments appeared to support the 81-year-old poker pro’s right to speak his mind.

Larry wrote:

Not everybody has to appreciate the idea that a guy who uses his masculinity to win games suddenly decides to change his sex. Doyle has almost singlehandedly brought poker out from the back rooms to become a major game or sport depending on your P.O.V. He speaks his mind and his criticism of others is pretty light. I may or may not agree with him on this, but I certainly respect his opinion.

Orange Crush writes:

That's how I felt. When I was about 7 years old I watched him in the Olympics and he has always been like a "hero" to me, it's sad that now is gone. I was always pullin for Bruce onthe show. (I guess i still should.. it's just harder to. Still processing..

But not everybody was thrilled with Brunson’s remarks:

Screw Mr. whoever he is! a poker player's opinion? riiight! I don't agree with his life choice either, but its his choice, that's what America is!! FREEDOM!! So go lose more of your money fool!

Wanda Abrahams writes:

I have a lot of respect for Doyle as a poker player. He has a right to his opinion, but I am disappointed in his comments. His sex change has absolutely nothing to do with his accomplishments. Bruce has as much right to be happy and live his life as he chooses as Doyle does. Doyle doesn't have to like or agree with Bruce's decision, but I hate that he felt the need to knock him. I know Doyle is old, but that doesn't give him a pass.

Brunson is widely rumored to be taking part in this coming Sunday’s (February 22, 2015) Winning Millions tournament online at Americas Cardroom.
