Doyle Brunson Has Swine Flu!
Poker icon Doyle Brunson has been stricken with Swine Flu....or at least he thinks so. But have no fear, the Texas Dolly is an enduring figure who won't let a little Swine Flu get in the way of his poker play.
"Uh oh...the piggy stuff is back, the Coronas just camaflauged it for awhile. I'm off to see the doc again. Maybe I can give this to Oppie," the 76-year old Brunson reports, referring to his hyperactive pet toy poodle.
As of December 4, 2009, there are 9,797 confirmed deaths worldwide from Swine Flu.
"I'm not sure if I have the swine flu or not, but I certainly have some kind of bug. I've been taking flu shots for 20 years and have never had the flu since I started taking them. So this must be some kind of a different strain but I don't have a fever, which goes along with the swine stuff. I'll kick it in a few days, my immune system has always been strong."
The outbreak began in Veracruz, Mexico, with evidence that there had been an ongoing epidemic for months before it was officially recognized as such. The Mexican government closed most of Mexico City's public and private facilities in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. However the virus continued to spread globally, clinics were overwhelmed by people infected, and the World Health Organization (WHO) and US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) stopped counting cases and in June declared the outbreak to be a pandemic.
Remember, you can always play poker side by side or against Doyle Brunson in the only online poker room where he plays, Doyles Room. And you don't have to worry about catching the Swine Flu by going to a real poker game.
