Saturday night turned out to be a banner night for Gambling911.com with mega traffic following the ’48 Hours Mysteries” segment on Ernie Scherer III, the man sentenced for the bludgeoning of both his parents in 2008.

“Our traffic was through the roof, which is a testament to just how popular ’48 Hours Mysteries’ is, even with a Saturday night airing,” commented Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.

Anything and everything related to Scherer III typically leads to Gambling911.com via search.  It was the G911 website that helped bring the case to the national forefront after the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office asked for the nationwide exposure as a means of locating potential witnesses.

Scherer III was accused of staging the double homicide of his parents at their Pleasanton, California home, presumably for inheritance money after falling on bad times.

The ’48 Hours Mysteries’ piece featured an interview with the sister of Ernie Scherer III.

"I know that her face was unrecognizable -- it was horrific. I remember closing my eyes and -- and crying and wishing that I could have taken it for her, so she didn't have to suffer," Catherine cried during the report

While no weapons were found at the scene, police told Catherine her parents were bludgeoned to death. The killer then used another weapon to cut their throats and wrists to make sure they were gone. Her mother suffered the worst damage.
