More Beast as Americas Cardroom Adds on Another $60K to Progressive Rake Race
The fur is sure to fly on Americas Cardroom this weekend, as the online poker site unveiled "The Beast", a groundbreaking progressive rake race that will be unleashed Sunday, July 1.
The Beast, which will be held once a month, will award substantial cash prizes to those who place in the race. As the field of competitors increases, so will the seeding of the cash prizes.
"We estimate that the first month alone could clear over $200,000, with a first prize of more than $25,000," ACR spokesperson Michael Harris said. "We call it The Beast because this promotion is meant for hard-core grinders. To conquer The Beast, participants will need to play like one to be able to make it to the top."
The Beast's structure suggests it will be something totally new on the poker landscape —not to mention an enormously generous event.

The progressive component makes The Beast a unique variation on the industry-standard rake race. The promotion has two components. The first is a cash race, for which Americas Cardroom will award cash bonuses to the most frequent players, with total prizes expected to exceed $100,000.
For this component, a percentage of the existing Jackpot fee will go toward one massive prize pool. The more people who play at the jackpot tables, the greater the prize pool, and, in turn, the more people who'll reap the rewards.

This actually looks like a very good thing. According to the points multiplier table, it really IS possible for a 25NL player to win the top prize because the emphasis here is on volume, and higher stakes only have a small advantage. Players with more limited bankrolls had absolutely zero chance of winning (or even placing) in a rake race before. A 25 or 50 NL reg that plays daily has a pretty decent chance of at least making SOME money from the race, especially since the number of spots paid grows as the pool grows ($90K = 360 spots paid) Now all players 25NL and above have incentive to play more.
Also a huge plus; no more of the absurd bonus points for playing in selected tournaments, thank God...

The second component is a leaderboard that awards tournament entries to a monthly super-satellite, where players can win a dream poker vacation at the Punta Cana Poker Classic in the Dominican Republic. The value of the tropical excursion exceeds $5,000 — and that's not including the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity the winner will have to play in a live no-limit holdem poker tournament with a guaranteed $500,000 prize pool.
