New Poker Show ‘The Shark Cage’ to Debut: Online Qualifiers

ONCHAN, Isle of Man – PokerStars today launched a series of online qualifying tournaments for a new TV show called The Shark Cage, which will feature a winner-take-all first prize of $1 million. The first two televised heats of the show will take place at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2014.

The Shark Cage is a series of eight heats (spread across various EPT stops throughout the year) that will culminate in a final table where one player will scoop the $1 million first prize. Each heat will comprise five of the biggest names in poker and an online qualifier.

To be in with a chance of winning a trip to the Caribbean in January, and play in one of the televised heats with a chance to take a shot at the $1 million first prize later in the year, PokerStars players simply need to make a deposit using one of the bonus codes below to get a ticket or tickets to the qualifying tournaments that take place each day this week (November 25-30) at 15.00 ET.

Each qualifying tournament will have a $5,000 added cash prize and the top 50 players from each of the six qualifiers will get a chance to audition for The Shark Cage TV show. To do this, a qualifying player simply needs to record a video audition in English, upload it to YouTube and then email the link to sharkcage@pokerstars.com no later than 23.59 ET on December 8. The PokerStars Team will judge the entries based on personality, enthusiasm, humour and talent, and will contact the top finalists for phone interviews before announcing the winners on Dec 17. The new TV series will be filmed at the PCA (2 heats), Monaco (4 heats), and Barcelona (2 heats), with the eight heat winners playing for the $1 million first prize at the final in London. The Shark Cage will differ to many other televised tournament shows, in that it will focus on fun, table talk, and include rules such as ‘Play Against the Clock’ (30 seconds to act), ‘Don’t Get Bluffed’ (rewards and penalties for successful and unsuccessful river bluffs), and ‘No Deals’ (winner-take-all first prize, no deals allowed).
