A high-profile coaching gig is now open after the Houston Cougars and Dana Holgerson parted ways, and a familiar name in Texas is lurking at the top of the Cougars odds list.  That would be Kliff Kingsbury with the potential payout of $200 on every $100 bet.

Who will be the next Houston Cougars head coach?

Kliff Kingsbury               +200

Jeff Traylor                   +300

Gary Patterson              +500

Willie Fritz                    +500

Jeff Banks                     +900

Will Stein                      +1100

GJ Kinne                       +1200

Emmett Jones               +1400

Jimbo Fisher                 +1600

The Cougars had had enough of Holgerson and their three losing seasons under his five season reign.

“Over the course of his five seasons with the Cougars, Dana made strides in our football program in many ways and laid the groundwork for our transition to the Big 12 Conference,” Houston vice president of athletics Chris Pezman said in a statement. ”Ultimately, the results on the field fell below our standards of excellence. We are grateful to Dana for his efforts and commitment to our student-athletes and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Kingsbury is not a given as there are talks the USC coach could wind up the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

Sam Pittman, the current head coach in Arkansas, is another with relatively short odds at 4-1.
