The Start Of Antigua and Barbuda's Digital Transformation
Antigua and Barbuda is one of many countries that has felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reduced tourist numbers and increased dependence on online payments have had a heavy impact on the island. The solution may lie in a diversified economy with a focus on innovation. That's the vision of Antigua’s government which has recently passed legislation to support the local tech sector.
The Prime Minister passed the Digital Assets Business Bill into law in 2020 in hopes that it will encourage new digital businesses and stimulate the economy. Not surprising that Antigua would be in the forefront of this explosive industry just as they were there during the early days of online gambling.
In fact, Antigua has proved time and time again the right way in which to do things....not the wrong way (e.g. read my colleague Jagajeet Chiba's excellent piece on El Salvador).
The Prime Minister welcomes the BSV platform and believes that it will help attract new investments, create new products for exportation, increase their earning capacity, and at the same time, create opportunities, especially career opportunities for people.
