NY State Opens Biggest Poker Room
Resorts World Catskills is betting big on poker, announcing Monday that it recently expanded its poker area to make it the biggest among the state’s four commercial casinos.
The casino’s parent company, Empire Resorts, is touting its two-week-old decision to move the casino’s poker room from the second-floor to the main gaming floor, while adding one poker table to bring its tally to 20.
The new poker area is 7,000 square feet, up from 5,600 square feet. The old area will be used for additional event space, said casino spokeswoman Talya Regan.
When Will Draftkings App Be Available in PA
Draftkings still needs approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) before a launch timeline can take shape. They will be partnering with The Meadows a la Penn National.
Both companies submitted applications, with Meadows including its $10 million application fee.
From LegalSportsReport:
"The next two PGCB meetings take place on August 14 and September 4. DraftKings Sportsbook likely could launch its mobile product shortly after approval.
"If Meadows and DraftKings receive clearance on either date, they reasonably could launch either before or early in NFL and college football season. College football starts at the end of August and the NFL kicks off September 5.
"FanDuel Sportsbook fired up its sports betting app in Pennsylvania in July. That will allow FanDuel a head start of at least a few weeks. That advantage magnifies when factoring in FanDuel features the only built-in Apple device compatibility at the moment.
"After ceding the initial lead in NJ sports betting revenue to DraftKings last year, FanDuel stands atop neighboring New Jersey in 2019. Part of DraftKings’ advantage came from a nearly month-long jump on other NJ sports betting apps."
Lawmakers From Across Nation Gather to Discuss How Best to Legalize Sports Betting
"A group of lawmakers and staffers from across the country huddled at the National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit in Nashville on Tuesday to discuss how best to regulate the new industry. Sports betting isn't exactly a windfall to states that host it, lawmakers cautioned, but it can provide a legitimate revenue stream.
"Lawmakers in Nashville also emphasized the need to allow online sports betting, which can be done from a smartphone. West Virginia state Rep. Shawn Fluharty said it’d be “legislative malpractice” for states to bar sports betting on mobile devices and only allow betting to happen in casinos. One of the largest companies that hosts mobile sports betting is Boston-based DraftKings, which opened a new headquarters in the Back Bay several months ago."
Bryn Kenney Now Poker's Biggest All-Time Winner
The Triton Million, which featured a record-breaking £1.05-million buy-in, attracted 54 players to create a colossal prize pool of £54 million. And it was high-stakes poker pro Bryn Kenney who ultimately walked away with a staggering £16.8 million ($20.5 million US).
But he finished in 2nd place!
Chinese financier Aaron Zang won it. The original first-place payout was £19 million but Zang and Kenney decided to cut a deal that flattened the payout between first and second place.
Oddsshark explains how it all went down:
At the time the deal was made, Kenney had a huge 4-1 chip lead on Zang so he earned a much bigger payout of £16.8 million. Incredibly, the amateur Zang came barreling back, however, and ended up winning the tournament for £13.7 million.
Meanwhile, Kenney had to settle for second place and £16.8 million. That’s the biggest payout in the history of poker, despite the fact it wasn’t even for first place.
