Close stated in her 2019 Golden Globes acceptance speech that the film took 14 years to make as no A-list actors wanted to appear in a film titled The Wife. The producers eventually found British actor Jonathan Pryce.
Oddsmakers believe Close will win, and if so, this would be her first Oscar. She has been nominated seven times.
Close has tight competition as Olivia Coleman has received some strong accolades while Lady Gaga tied with Close at the Critic's Choice Awards.
