How You Should Go About Hedging Super Bowl Futures Bets

Just as with most games, it is possible to hedge bets with the Super Bowl.  Hedging is a method used to almost certainly guarantee profit by betting the opposite side of one's original bet as soon as it looks like the original bet's likelihood of winning has increased.

Case in point, the Kansas City Chiefs have been firing on all cylinders the later portion of the 2021-22 NFL season but it was the Green Bay Packers favored to win Super Bowl 56 entering the Playoffs.  With Green Bay eliminated, KC has the best odds of winning coming into the AFC Championship game against a Bengals team that hasn't advanced in the post season since the 1980's.

But the NFC Champion will have either beaten the season long favorites to win the Super Bowl, the Packers - that would be San Francisco - or will have beaten the team that beat the season long favorites to win the Super Bowl - that would be the Rams.

Once Super Bowl 56 is set, it's time to consider a wager on the NFC team....maybe.

Rob Pizzola of BetStamp offered up his take on hedging when it comes to Super Bowl futures.   We want to advise that this type of strategy typically - but not always - requires more than one book.  Many sportsbooks frown on those who place bets on opposite sides in a particular event.  If you have your original Super Bowl futures bet sitting at one sportsbook, you'll want to hedge elsewhere.

Pizzola gives three great tips.

1.  There is no right answer.

"Whether or not you want to hedge is a matter of personal preference," he advises.

2.  Do hedge if it is going to affect your personal well being.

"If you cannot deal with getting back $0 on a wager because a team lost, if it's going to affect the way that you sleep or if it's just life changing money for you if you win that bet, then by all means hedge it."

3.  Hedging can lose value on the original bet.

"You are paying vig again.  Vig is where the oddsmakers have the edge over you."
