Inaugural SBC Digital Summit Underway, US Lottery Industry Under Siege from Covid19 Outbreak
Lottery executives from around the U.S. will come together as part of the Lottery Day at the SBC Digital Summit to host a session “State of Play -- U.S. Lotteries During the Coronavirus.”
The U.S. lottery session is one of seven high-level panel sessions on the Golden Race-sponsored Lottery track, which is part of the extensive agenda for the international betting and gaming industry’s biggest ever online conference and exhibition. Six further content tracks across the week will focus on Leadership in Betting, Leadership in Gaming, the Latin American market, the U.S. sports betting market, payments, and digital marketing.
SBC’s groundbreaking virtual event will take place during the dates originally scheduled for the Betting on Sports America conference, the largest dedicated sports betting trade show in the world now slated to be held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey on December 1-3, 2020.
As part of the State of Play session, CEOs from the Maryland Lottery and Oregon State Lottery will discuss how U.S. lotteries have been one of the worst hit areas during the coronavirus outbreak and how the hit has affected the funds they generate for their respecitve regions. Officials will also talk about what has been effective during this down time and if more cross-state cooperation is likely in the future. The speakers include:
Barry Pack, CEO, Oregon State Lottery
Gordon Medenica, CEO, Maryland Lottery
Barry Pack: “Unlike physical casinos, lotteries are still active. Sales have been dramatically decreasing and jackpots have been subsequently diminished. Sadly, the ripple effect means that educational systems, veteran support programs and the host of other public service programs that are funded by lotteries will all take a hit. Lottery officials everywhere have a duty to think strategically about their future now more than ever. I’m eager to bring my perspective to the table as part of this groundbreaking virtual summit.”
The Lottery Day track that is part of the SBC Digital Summit takes place on Thursday April 30. In addition to the U.S. State of Play, other sessions that are part of the Lottery Day include:
-- How Lotteries are Adapting to the Outbreak
-- Offering a compelling digital lottery product
-- Covid19 Implications for Sporting Integrity
-- Lottery in Society: Post Corona Positioning
-- Being Mobile: How Lottery Can Still Reach Its Players
The shift to a virtual event will be complete with five days of conference sessions, virtual networking facilities, and even a complete exhibition and trade show floor in digital format with state-of-the-art connection possibilities.
