Sports Betting Beat: Ohio Lawmaker to Introduce Bill, Fantasy Sports Coming to LA

Sen. Kirk Schuring of Ohio is set to introduce a bill that would legalize sports wagering in the Buckeye State.

The Republican lawmaker is targetting Thursday as the day he presents his 250-page legislation.

Ohio is surrounded by states that currently allow the activity, including Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.

The bill won’t be perfect on introduction, he confessed while appearing on Canton Morning News with Pam Cook on 1480 WHBC.

“They’re working on it, it’s politics. There’s debate as to who should govern it, whether it should be the lottery commission or the gaming commission. I won’t weigh in to that, but as soon as they figure that out we’ll have it. Ohio’s going to get it done, it’s just a matter of when,” he said on the show.

To be clear, any bill seeking to allow legalized sports betting in the state of Ohio would have to allow betting on state college teams.  Prohibiting those in the state from betting on their beloved Buckeyes would be akin to blasphemy.
