Oz Odds Get Longer in PA Race: Crudités and Multiple Out-of-State Mansions His Undoing?
Regardless of what side of the aisle you'll be supporting come November's elections, most of us - Democrats, Republicans, Independents - probably have no idea which aisle the crudités can be found. And when we go to our favorite grocery store, we know the name of said favorite grocery store.
Few can deny how effective the ads against television doctor Mehmet Oz have been in the hotly contested Pennsylvania Senate race.
Cleanup on Aisle 5 won't do much to help Oz overcome this past week's "made for late night" viral gaffes.
Democrat John Fetterman is now the biggest favorite yet in PA at -550.
The Fetterman camp has sought to paint Oz as disconnected from the average working man and woman of Pennsylvania.
The Democrat's campaign mocked a viral video of the TV doctor shopping for vegetables while pointing out the steep prices, blaming the Biden Administration in the process.
The later part of the video, and arguably the whole point of making it, mostly went unnoticed.
Oz referring to a veggie plate as "crudités" while getting the name of a popular Pennsylvania supermarket chain, Wegman's, wrong was the talk of the interwebs this weekend, at least in PA.
Referring to Wegman's as "Wegner's" is akin to calling A&P "ADT", King Soopers "King Super", Albertson's "Allenson's", or Publix in Florida "Pubs", Trader Joe's as "Trader Jane's" in California. You get the idea.
Nothing says "I don't live in this state" more than not knowing the name of the largest supermarket chain.
The Fetterman campaign continues to drive home that narrative when it comes to Oz. Prior to running for PA Senate, he lived in New Jersey.
Nobody in Pennsylvania eats "crudités" either.

OMG a Family Feud-themed ad... how can I love John Fetterman more? It's impossible! cc: @buzzerblog https://t.co/YsxKtDdHyZ

As if things couldn't get worse for Oz, they really went to shit on Saturday, literally. That's when old tweets from the television doctor surfaced discussing bowel movements.
While much of his Twitter account today focuses on policy matters, years ago it was mostly about fecal matters.
“What does your ‘poop’ say about your health? Learn here,” reads one tweet from April 2013 with a link to Oz’ web site, a site that now accepts campaign donations.
“This is the right way to poop,” he offered in August 2019, pointing out to his followers that they have likely been “pooping wrong their whole life.”
Fetterman continues to run away with this race despite having just suffered a stroke. Perhaps a result of not having enough crudités in his diet.
It's not all bad news for the Republicans as far as the Senate races go, at least not on the odds front.
While polls show Democrat Tim Ryan ahead in Ohio, GOP candidate and "Hillbilly Elegy" novelist JD Vance is still the -200 favorite at BetOnline.
Republican Ted Budd is another Republican favored in a state that pundits believed could go the other way, North Carolina. That doesn't seem as likely as we inch towards September.
Wisconsin, on the other hand, is looking more vulnerable by the day. Republican incumbent Senator Ron Johnson is a mere -130 favorite going up against Democrat Mandela Barnes. A recent poll now show Barnes ahead by four points.
Longtime GOP Senator from Iowa, Chuck Grassley, is the biggest favorite of any candidate. The 88-year-old (you read that right) is coming in at -5000.
BetOnline, meanwhile, has GOP incumbent Marco Rubio heavily favored to retain his Senate seat in Florida at -1500 versus likely candidate Congresswoman Val Demings. The Florida primaries take place this Tuesday. Demings is well ahead of her challenger in the Democratic primary. A recent poll showed Demings, a former Orlando police chief, now beating Rubio.
