Sorvino’s wife, Dee Dee, confirmed his death, saying Sorvino died of natural causes. “Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage,” she said.

In addition to portraying mob kingpins, Sorvino also played cops, presidential cabinet members, and he even did Shakespeare.

Following a brief stint at acting in the 60's, Sorvino tried his hand at Hollywood again in the 70's and scored big with supporting roles in films like Carl Reiner’s Where’s Poppa? and Jerry Schatzberg’s The Panic in Needle Park.

It was Broadway where he made the biggest initial impact in Jason Miller’s 1972 Broadway play, That Championship Season.

Sorvino's character in "Goodfellas" was based on the real life mobster Paul Vario.

In May, fellow "Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta died at the age of 67.
