It’s a whopper of a night in the Octagon and at the betting window as not one, not two, but three title fights highlight the card at UFC 259: Blachowicz vs. Adesanya from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Petr Yan (15-1) defends his title for the first time taking on Aljamain Sterling (19-3) in a bantamweight bout to get the trilogy started. Amanda Nunes (20-4) puts her women’s featherweight strap on the line against Megan Anderson (11-4) in the second co-main event. Those tussles set the stage for the main event with undefeated Israel Adesanya (20-0) moving up a weight class to take on light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz (27-8).  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous CASH welcome bonus (max CASH bonus $1600).

Three title fights alone would be worth the price of admission, figuratively speaking of course, but the ticket for Saturday includes two other bouts on the main card, four fights in the prelims and six scraps in the early prelims. It is indeed a full night.

Islam Makhachev (18-1) puts his six fight winning streak on the line against Drew Dober (23-9) in a lightweight match. Makhachev hasn’t fought in over a year with COVID restrictions and injury putting him on the shelf. He remains a top contender in the division, however, and looks to get back to a routine. Oddsmakers aren’t too concerned about his layoff or they don’t trust Dober. Either way Makhachev opened as a big favorite in this bout.

A couple of bantamweight battles highlight the prelims with those fighters looking to climb the ladder to Yan and Sterling status. Former champ Dominick Cruz (22-3) takes on Casey Kenney (16-2-1) in one fight. Cruz lost the belt to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 and dropped his next fight to Henry Cejudo. Kenney has been active winning his last three fights. And Cruz is the kind of opponent he needs to beat to put on his resume.

Jan Blachowicz (27-8, 8 KOs, 9 SUBs) vs. Israel Adesanya (20-0, 15 KOs, 0 SUBs)

It’s never easy making a jump in weight class. Adesanya did all he could in the middleweight division winning the interim title with a win over Kevin Gastelum and unifying the titles with a stoppage of Robert Whitaker. He successfully defended his title twice last year and makes the leap to take on new faces and new fighting styles. Blachowicz emerged as a top fighter in the division by KOing Cory Anderson and doing the same to Dominick Ryes to capture the vacant light heavyweight title. He put everything together at the same time to emerge as a threat. And he packs a powerful punch that’s put four of the last five opponents to sleep. Technically sound in nearly every aspect of his game, nobody has devised a plan to beat Adesanya. And I don’t think Blachowicz is quick enough to avoid lethal strikes.

UFC Pick: Israel Adesanya / Decision

Megan Anderson (11-4, 6 KOs, 3 SUBs) vs. Amanda Nunes (20-4, 13 KOs, 3 SUBs)

Is there any fighter in the UFC or MMA for that matter badder than Nunes? It’s amazing she’s lost four times, however, none of those defeats have come recently. The Lioness has won 11 straight fights with seven of those defending her title. Not many are giving Anderson a chance as indicated by the odds. The Australian challenger has a major advantage in height and reach, something she will need to use to successfully hold off the champ. And Anderson is coming off a pair of first round stoppages to earn a chance at the belt. Even if Anderson can withstand an early onslaught, the relentless pressure Nunes applies will eventually be too much. There is absolutely no value betting Nunes so look at alternate markets, or put a few bucks on Anderson get a hefty payout should pull off the upset.

UFC Pick: Amanda Nunes / (T)KO / 3rd Round
