INDIANA PACERS (38-43) at MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (54-27)

Sportsbook.ag Line: Indiana -2, Total: 185

The Grizzlies host the Pacers on Wednesday and Indiana would clinch the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a victory.

The Pacers hosted the Wizards on Tuesday and won 99-95 as 7.5-point home favorites. Indiana has now won its past six games and has covered in four of those contests. The Grizzlies went into Golden State on Monday and lost 111-107 as 8-point road underdogs. Memphis has now lost two straight games SU but the team has covered in both losses.

These two teams met on Oct. 31, when the Grizzlies won 97-89 as 6.5-point road favorites. Over the past three seasons, Indiana is 3-2 both SU and ATS versus Memphis but the teams have split wins both SU and ATS when playing at FedExForum.

The Pacers are 4-0 ATS this season after scoring 35 points or less in the first half of their previous game. They are also 15-7 ATS when doing so over the past three seasons. The Grizzlies are 8-1 ATS off a cover where they lost their previous game SU as an underdog this season. They are also 43-24 ATS after playing a game as a road underdog over the past three seasons.

PG C.J. Watson (Elbow) and SF Chris Copeland (Abdominal) are out indefinitely for the Pacers and C Marc Gasol (Ankle) will play for the Grizzlies, who could be without both PG Mike Conley (Ankle) and SG Tony Allen (Hamstring) in this game.

The Pacers need a victory to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference and that means PG George Hill (16.0 PPG, 5.1 APG, 4.1 RPG, 1.0 SPG) must play well in this game. Hill has been the best player for Indiana all season and is coming off of a game against the Wizards where he scored 24 points and also had 10 assists and nine rebounds in 48 minutes of action.

C Roy Hibbert (10.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 BPG) is going to need to have a good game against Memphis in this one. He’s going to spend a majority of his time on the court guarding Marc Gasol and he can’t afford to get severely outplayed. He had eight points, eight boards and a block in 27 minutes the last time he faced the Grizzlies and needs to do better than the 3-for-10 shooting performance he had against Washington on Tuesday.

PF David West (11.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 3.4 APG) had 15 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a steal against Washington last game. He’ll need to play well against Zach Randolph in this game. SF Paul George (10.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.0 SPG) had 10 points and three rebounds in 18 minutes on Tuesday. He has provided this team a much needed spark off the bench and could really use another double-digit scoring performance on Wednesday.

The Grizzlies have gone cold recently and will be looking to earn a victory over the Pacers in order to keep their spirits high heading into the playoffs. C Marc Gasol (17.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.6 BPG) played just 21 minutes against the Warriors on Monday, finishing with six points, four assists and two rebounds in the game. He is dealing with a sore ankle and must get himself right before the playoffs. He dominated Roy Hibbert the last time they faced off, finishing with 20 points, six boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals in 33 minutes of action.

PF Zach Randolph (16.1 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.0 SPG) had 22 points and 13 rebounds the last time he faced the Pacers. He will need to be very tough inside against David West and also must come ready to play some defense. He’ll be relied on to score even more than usual in this one, as this team is completely depleted by injuries.

PG Mike Conley (15.8 PPG, 5.4 APG, 1.3 SPG) will likely miss his fourth game in a row when this one is all over. The Grizzlies are missing his ability to set up his teammates and he is also a very good defender at the point guard position. Without him, Memphis’ role players must step up in order to beat a hungry Pacers team.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
