Xavier had odds of 40/1 of winning the 2012 NCAA Championship.

The number 10 seeded Musketeers did manage an impressive win over upset-minded Lehigh this past Sunday.  That said, Xavier is a number 10 seed heading into the Sweet 16 and such seedings will come with long odds (good for bettors maybe).

Xavier, which had 12 losses on the season, takes on Baylor with 9 losses.  The Musketeers have won 5 of their last 6 while Baylor has won 4 of their last 6.

The Associated Press noted the following regarding Xavier:

Xavier was ranked as high as eighth in the country earlier this season, but a midseason bench-clearing brawl that resulted in player suspensions seemed to turn the season on a sour note. They lost their edge and had to battle to make the tournament.

But they seem to have rekindled their momentum.

"We ultimately knew we had talent, but for whatever reason things just weren't clicking," Frease said. "We're coming together at the right time. It feels real good to get back to the Sweet 16."

Elsewhere, North Carolina had 5/1 odds of winning the NCAA Championship this year while number 13 seed Ohio came in with the longest odds at 85/1 – for a hefty payout potential of $8500 on a $100 bet

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?
