Bwin PartyGaming Merger

Bwin chairman Hannes Androsch claims he was quoted wrong in suggesting that merger talks between his company and PartyGaming had fallen through

On the acquisition and merger front, Austria's bwin and the 4th largest online poker company, PartyGaming, have been talking extensively of late.

Bwin Chairman Hannes Androshch claims that talks between the two companies continue despite erroneous quotes made to a European newspaper attributed to him that suggest otherwise.

Androshch is quoted in the Austrian monthly magazine Trend as saying: "It is true, that talks with the English company ultimately did not lead to the desired outcome."

Bwin issued a statement saying that his quote should have read: ‘It is true, that up until now, talks have not lead to any specific outcome.'

Rumors of a merger between PartyGaming and bwin began to surface late last year.

Trend also reported that Bwin was now in the process of seeking a joint venture partner in the US, which includes the potential sale of a minority stake of up to 11 percent to a San Francisco-based company.

Bwin's co-chief executive, Norbert Teufelberger, also told the publication: "Bwin wants to tackle the task of entering the United States with a competent and local partner. We are holding talks to do this."
