Bookmaker has taken over all existing accounts of the US-facing online betting exchange Betmaker, it was announced on Tuesday.

All funds are safe and the transfer of accounts was expected to be seamless.

Betting exchanges catering to US clients have failed to catch on unlike in Europe where companies the likes of Betfair reign supreme.  That said, even sites like Betfair appear to have lost their luster in recent years.

Because most betting exchanges make their money through the charging a commission, the odds tend to be more favorable for gamblers.  The bookmaker is typically removed from the equation.

The Betmaker name has graced the online sports betting scene since 1997 and was one of the first successful websites of its kind.  Over the past decade, the company has undergone a series of management changes and lost much of its visibility.
