The anonymous digital currency known as Bitcoin hit an all time high of $309 Thursday (November 7, 2013).

The value of Bitcoin has increased 20-fold in the past year with no sign of slowing down, even in the wake of some US Government intervention.  An illicit drug clearinghouse website that aided in the early success of the anonymous currency, Silk Road, resurfaced online this week following a shutdown by US authorities a few weeks ago.

So far, Bitcoin has been a high-margin and high-risk investment. Since the currency hit $123 on October 3, it has risen to about $309, nearly 3-fold, RT.com reports.

Transactions via Bitcoin are beginning to gain more wider acceptance in the online gambling community with sites such as Satoshi Poker and Gambling911.com-endorsed BitBM.com enjoying success.

At last count, there were nearly 12 million Bitcoins in circulation.
