Bitcoin Sees Sudden Spike Early Monday, Marking Gain of Nearly $700

Bitcoin spiked in morning trading to near $10,200, marking a gain of more than $700, or about 7.5 percent, over the last 24 hours on Coinbase.  The cryptocurrency was still hovering between the $10.1K and $10.3K mark heading into the 10 am EST hour.

CNBC was reporting that cross-border currency exchange company Circle did announce around the time of the spike that it is acquiring Poloniex, a leading cryptocurrency trading platform.

Poloniex has the seventh-largest market share of U.S. dollar-bitcoin trading volume, according to CryptoCompare.

Likewise, interest from Japanese investors was slightly greater than it has been recently, according to data from CryptoCompare.
