What's the Line on the Kentucky vs. Ole Miss Game Saturday September 28?
- Ole Miss comes into their Week 5 game against Kentucky as an early -17.5 favorite.
- The Wildcats are coming off a rout of Ohio in Week 4.
- The Rebels routed Georgia Southern with starting quarterback Jaxson Dart throwing four touchdowns.
The line on the Kentucky vs. Ole Miss game opened at Rebels -17 before moving up a half point to -17.5.
Sagarin has Ole Miss rated No. 5 (90.41) and Kentucky rated No. 25 (78.92). With home field advantage of 3.87, Sagarin generates a number of Rebels 15.36, suggesting a bit of an overlay here.
Kentucky routed Ohio in its last game, 41-6.
Quarterback Brock Vandagriff was 17-of-24 passing for 237 yards as the Wildcats (2-2) put together a balanced offensive attack of 488 yards after South Carolina and Georgia kept them out of the end zone. Junior Dane Key caught seven passes for a career-high 145 yards yards, and redshirt freshman Jamarion Wilcox led the ground game with 82 yards as Kentucky ran for 206 yards.
“I think we executed the game plan that we were trying to go out there and execute. We played fast,” Vandagriff said. “We had a couple of penalties that were not crucial, but were drive killers. But we felt like if we were able to execute our plan and we’d be able to get in the end zone a few times.”
Sumo-Karngbaye’s 1-yard touchdown at the start of the second quarter was Kentucky’s first touchdown in nine quarters.
Against an Ohio pass rush that had registered only two total sacks in the Bobcats’ prior two games this season against FBS competition, Vandagriff was sacked once and hurried five times to be forced off his spot in the pocket multiple times. Learning to be a starting quarterback in power conference football is no easy task.
“He’s certainly rushed a bunch,” UK offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan said after the Ohio win. “We understand that. We’re not just sitting back in drop-back passing action. I know that everybody wants to throw it a lot but that would be poor coaching on our part, it really would.”

Protecting Vandagriff is an issue. In UK’s back-to-back losses to begin SEC play, South Carolina sacked Wildcats QBs five times and hurried them on four plays.
And it probably won't get any easier against mighty Ole Miss in Week 5.
The Rebels are 4-0 coming into this game. They did slip a spot from No. 6 to No. 7 in the new AP Poll.
Through his team's first four games, Jaxson Dart has 1,554 passing yards, the most by a SEC player to start a season since Tim Couch in 1998 (1,577).
Dart threw four touchdowns in the Week 4 52-13 rout of Georgia Southern.
Tre Harris had 11 receptions for 225 yards, including touchdowns of 70 and 36 yards.
“He’s a workhorse and has the right mindset,” Dart said. “Tre makes it easy for me and we’ve got other weapons to go with him. The offensive line makes it all go.”
Henry Parrish, JJ Pegues and Domonique Thomas ran for TDs. Ole Miss finished with 607 yards of offense but was hampered by 11 penalties for 133 yards.
“Our players had good energy and it was obvious,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said. “We may not have played smart all the time with 11 penalties but with the exception of one throw, Jaxson was solid. Tre was electric. He was elite today.”
