Former NFL quarterback Mike Vick has told people close to him that he plans to accept the head coaching job at Norfolk State, sources confirmed to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

For the past two years, Vick has served as ambassador for the popular 31-year-old sports betting site BetUS, which is part of the Gambling911.com family.

His image garners many of their banners.

Vick replaced Gary Payton as BetUS ambassador.

The Spartans are finalizing a deal to hire a new coach, according to sources close to ESPN.

Vick, 44, has informed Sacramento State officials that he is no longer in the mix for their open head coaching position and indicated to them he's taking a job closer to home at Norfolk State. Vick's hometown of Newport News, Virginia, is not far from the Spartans' campus.

As a player, Vick carried Virginia Tech to the 1999 national title game and went on to become the first Black quarterback to be chosen with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. He has been an NFL analyst for Fox Sports since his retirement in 2017.

News of Vick's plan to take the Norfolk State job was first reported by the Virginian-Pilot.

It's been a newsworthy week for sportsbook celebrity spokespeople.  This weekend we learned that Jamie Foxx, spokesperson for BetMGM, was briefly hospitalized after being involved in an altercation at his own birthday party.

Singer Drake, who is an ambassador for Stake.com, was named Top R&B Hip-Hop Artist at the 2024 Billboard Awards.
