Mark Wahlberg’s ‘The Gambler’ Draws Modest Opening Box Office Numbers

Gambling aficionados have been waiting for Christmas Day to view “The Gambler”, a remake of a 1974 film of the same name, this one starring Mark Wahlberg.

Christmas opening day box office numbers were modest considering the big name star and decent reviews.  The movie is estimated to have brought in just over $4 million.

Not entirely bad for a day in which a glut of more heavily promoted films debuted.

The Angelina Jolie-directed “Unbroken” drew stronger audience numbers than initially expected and beat out the movie most analysts believed with top the box office figures, “Into the Woods”.  “Unbroken” made around $15 million.  “Into the Woods” topped off around $12 million.
