Pawn Stars Spinoff ‘Cajun Pawn Stars’ to Debut Next Month
The History Channel announced Thursday that a spin-off of its hugely successful show "Pawn Stars" will premiere next month on cable TV in the USA.
The new show, called "Cajun Pawn Stars," will focus on the day-to-day happenings at the Silver Dollar Pawn & Jewelry Center pawn shop in Alexandria, Louisiana, USA, northwest of New Orleans.
The shop, which opened in 1984, is owned by Jimmie "Big Daddy" DeRamus and run by him and his family.
As in "Pawn Stars," a key element of "Cajun Pawn Stars" will be the intra-family squabbles that go along with the daily operation of a family-owned pawn shop.
"Cajun Pawn Stars" is to premiere at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, January 8, 2012, and will air regularly on Sunday nights.
"Pawn Stars" is the History Channel's highest-rated show and one of the highest-rated programs on cable television in the USA.
Based in Las Vegas and centering around the happenings at the Harrison family-owned Gold & Silver Pawn shop, the show often features gambling-themed items from Vegas' storied history, such as Rat Pack memorabilia or gaming tables and poker chips from defunct casinos.
With "Cajun Pawn Stars" based not far from New Orleans and its casinos, expect some Southern-style gambling memorabilia to show up on the show along with the expected Confederate Civil War uniforms, moonshining equipment and hillbilly knick-knacks.
