UCLA vs. Oregon Spread Opens At -21 ½
Following news that the Oregon Ducks had garnered their first ever number one ranking by the Associated Press poll, the UCLA vs. Oregon spread opened at -21 ½ in favor of the Ducks for this coming Thursday’s game at BetED.com. Early spread action had Oregon getting 85 percent of the betting action. The line had dipped to -20 ½ earlier on Monday before moving back up to -21 ½ at BetED.com.
Release of the first BCS standings had Oregon ranked Second on Monday after Oklahoma.

There is some good news and some bad news in regard to Oregon’s chance at a 2011 BCS Championship title.

How important is being in the top five of the standings? If history is a guide, 20 of the 24 teams to play in the title game were in the top five in the initial standings. No team has reached the title game from lower than 12th in the initial release.
On the flip side, the Sooners and Ducks begin this race from the front row, but they can't quite say they're in control of it. Only once in 12 seasons of the BCS have the teams that were at the top of the first standings played in the championship game. That was 2005 with Southern California and Texas.
Pundits would anticipate Oregon having little trouble getting through the upcoming week with a victory.
Gamblers are more likely to focus on the total on this game, expected to be set at 60 ½.
Historic stats mostly favor the OVER in this game, despite the rather high number.
Oregon, as a favorite of 10.5 to 21 points, has gone over the total 7 of 8 times in the last three seasons.
The OVER is 12-2 in home games over that same period while it is 15-4 when played on turf.
As a road underdog of 14.5 to 21 points, the total has gone OVER 8 of 10 times for UCLA, though the OVER is only 4-16 when playing conference opponents over the past three seasons.
