The Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints point spread opened at -14 and it has not budged at BetED.com, though most other books were bringing the line down a half point as of Friday afternoon.  Just over 60 percent of the betting on this game was going towards the reigning Super Bowl champion Saints.

Carolina has won 3 of the last 4 games in this series and 7 of the past 10 though a win last year was a meaningless game for New Orleans.  The Panthers have only lost to New Orleans by more than the current point spread once in ten games.

Before considering this rather large spread, here are some past trends for reviewing:

The Panthers are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

The Panthers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC South.

Carolina is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC.

The Saints are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a S.U. loss.

The Saints are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite.

The Saints are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC.

The Saints are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.

New Orleans is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. NFC South.
