German pro Martin Finger has won the first ever EPT London £50,000 Super High Roller event for £821,000 after beating fellow German Tobias Reinkemeier heads-up.
Today’s victory is not only a career-best cash for Finger, but also makes him the only player to have won both an EPT Main Event and an EPT Super High Roller. He is also the only player to have secured two bracelets from sponsor Shamballa Jewels. Finger was wearing his first bracelet - received when he took down EPT Prague in Season 8 - all day today; now he has a second worth more than €10,000 and featuring black diamonds set on 18k rhodium-plated white gold.
Finger’s £821,000 prize brings his total live tournament winnings to well over $3.7 million – more than $2 million of which was achieved this year. In January, he was runner-up in the 2013 Aussie Millions $1,100 Event for A$168,912, he finished 14th in the WSOP One Drop High Roller event for $251,549 and won the WSOP $3,000 NL event for $506,764.
Finger, a former business science student who turned 23 two weeks ago, took up poker five years ago, kicking off in home games with friends before finding his way into online poker. He said today: ““EPT Prague was my first main title so it was pretty huge for me, but to win another title in this tough tournament feels pretty good. The field of a Super High Roller is so tough; tough to beat all of them in one tournament.”
Reinkemeier, who won the EPT Grand Final High Roller in Season 8 for €1,064,000, took £593,900 for his runner-up finish here in London.
With 57 entries, the EPT London Super High Roller prize pool eclipsed that of EPT Barcelona, and all eight finalists snagged a share of the £2,736,855 prize pool.
The Super High Roller event was filmed for TV with all three days broadcast live on PokerStars.tv.
