Week 1 College Football Betting Odds: West Virginia vs. Alabama Point Spread at

Week 1 College Football betting odds featured West Virginia vs. Alabama and a point spread that had the Crimson Tide as a huge -26 point favorite.  But do these Mountaineers really deserve to be a +26 underdog?

West Virginia is a long shot to win the 2015 National Championship, make no mistake about it.  They are favored to win UNDER 4.5 regular season games.

“I don’t think there is any question Alabama will beat West Virginia here,” notes Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.   “The big question is, can Alabama beat them by 26 points?”

As a favorite of 21.5 to 31 points, Alabama has indeed gone 4-1 Against The Spread over the past three seasons.  West Virginia has only been in this position once in the last three years and they failed to cover in that game.

Defense ruled WVU’s spring drills, which might be surprising to those who saw the Mountaineers the last couple of seasons, AthlonSports.com noted.  This is important since a good defense can certainly make the difference between an outright loss (almost certain) and loss by 26 points.

The Mountaineers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.  With that said, Alabama has failed to cover their last three games of the past season.
