Women’s World Cup Semi Finals Ratings Huge: Hundreds Flock to Place Bets on Final

The ESPN telecast of Wednesday’s Women’s World Cup semifinal game between the United States and France drew an impressive 2.6 Nielsen rating, especially for that time slot.  The game was aired in the early afternoon during a work day.  Sunday’s Final is expected to draw record viewership as the USA faces off against Japan.  Prior ratings had lagged up until this past Sunday’s showdown between the US and Brazil.  Team USA upset the Brazilians before moving onto Wednesday’s semifinal 3-1 win against France. 

The Women's World Cup home page on ESPN.com has generated nearly 1.5 million views, according to The Daily.

As far as the betting interest goes, our Women’s World Cup Final coverage has drawn the largest audience to the Gambling911.com website for a sporting event since the Kentucky Derby in just a matter of 24 hours.

“Most of that traffic is coming from the US,” noted Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com news site. 

Bookmaker, with a current line of EVEN on the USA side, is the official North American-facing sponsor of this event on G911.

“We believe there will be over 700 clickthrus generated for the Bookmaker website via Gambling911.com for this event alone by the time this game goes off on Sunday,” O’Brien predicted, noting that over 400 clickthrus had already been generated.  “This could be one for the record books.  The traffic is pretty nuts and we haven’t even arrived at game day yet.”

Gambling911.com was the first news site to report a line on the Finals immediately following Japan’s shock win over Sweden.
