Treacherous Midterm for Democrats Says The Hill

 

The Hill.com is not optimistic in regard to Democrats holding onto their majority seats after this November’s midterm elections and this does not bode well for online poker supporters who are counting on the Democratic Chairman of the House Financial Committee Barney Frank to come through for them with legislation designed to license Web card rooms in the States. 

Ironically it is the online oddsmakers who are predicting the sweep by Republicans.

Online Gambling Group Sportingbet Settles With US Government for $33 Mil

 

One of Europe’s largest online gambling firms, Sportingbet, has settled with the US Government, agreeing to forfeit $33 million. 

Sportingbet was represented by the successful Barry and Stuart Slotnick father and son tandem, who managed to get a settlement much less than what was originally anticipated.  Barry Slotnick is perhaps best known for his obtaining an acquittal of New York City resident Bernard Goetz on attempted murder and assault charges related to his shooting of four would-be muggers on a subway train in 1984.

With only weeks until the 9th annual European iGaming Congress and Expo (known also as the EiG Online Gambling Conference) slated to be held in Barcelona, Spain, organizers are said to be scrambling to replace California State Senator Roderick Wright, who was indicted last week on 8 counts voter fraud and other alleged improprieties.  Wright was behind a movement to legalize online poker in that state. 

Wright wasn’t just any speaker, he was scheduled to deliver the keynote address at this year’s show.

$8 Million Class Action Suit Entered Against Harrah’s

 

Beginning Monday (September 20, 2010), approximately 350,000 people will receive a court-ordered notice advising them that they are class members in a class action lawsuit against Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. for violations of New Jersey advertising laws with 80,000 of them being advised that they have been awarded $100 each. The remaining class members will be advised that they may be entitled to relief if they suffered damages from Harrah's violations.
