China: Online Gambling an Overseas Hostile Force
China will soon ban anonymous online comments left by users along with other "harmful information" found on the Net. The "harmful information" includes such things as online gambling and porn.
Wang Chen, director of the State Council Information Office, said China would strengthen its monitoring on "harmful information" on the Internet in an attempt to prevent "overseas hostile forces from infiltrating through the Internet", China Daily reported on Tuesday.
5,510 suspects involved in illicit online activities were detained last year.
The official said that tough measures would be employed to tackle online pornography, gambling and fraud as the country has witnessed a growing population of over 400 million Internet users.
