The Future of Daily Fantasy Leagues in the United States

The tremendous rise in popularity of one-day fantasy online sports betting leagues over the past few years has fueled the ongoing debate as to whether or not they should be considered skill-based contests or another form of sports betting.

On one side of the argument are the online sites like Fanduel and DraftKings that run these daily contests. They continue to contend that these one-day leagues are skill based since you have to pick your own team within an allotted budget. On the other side of the equation is the United States Government, which is starting to question whether or not this is just another form of betting on sports, which is currently illegal under certain internet gambling laws on the books since 2006.

Anytime there is this much money on the line you know that the federal government is going to get their hands involved and that is not a good thing for the fantasy sports industry in general. This debate is likely to rage on for years and do not be surprised if it ends up in the federal courts. Companies such as FanDuel and Draft Kings have deep pockets, but they would also be taking on the government of the United States.

Standing on the sidelines in this whole debate is the off-shore sports betting industry from the big online sportsbooks right down to the independent sports bookmakers working with a Pay Per Head service.  As the top PPH service in the sports betting industry, Premier Per Head has a vested interest in the eventual outcome of this issue and we will continue to monitor things closely.

The good news for independent sports bookmakers is that whatever happens with daily fantasy leagues we already have a highly advanced operating system in place to immediately adapt to any changes should the US declare them illegal. Over the past 15 years, we have made a major investment in both time and money in building a PPH company that is second to none when it comes to world class customer service and sophisticated sports betting software that rivals anything else in the sportsbook industry today.

Based in Costa Rica, Premier has always adhered to the legalities of sports betting under our local jurisdiction and we will continue to do so no matter what changes in law occur in the United States or anywhere else around the globe. We have worked our way to the top and we will continue to invest in the future to stay there.
