German Federal Court Suspends Internet Gambling Case

The German Federal Court set down a ruling on Thursday suspending its decision related to the legality of its State Treaty of Gaming.

The current online gambling treaty only allows for 20 licensed operators.

Opposition groups and gaming firms have argued that the German restrictions fail to adhere to European Union trade laws.

The German Court ruled Thursday that such restrictions on Internet gambling are acceptable as existing for “legitimate public interest.”  They will now refer to the Union Court of Justice (CJEU) to decide whether the country’s State Gambling Treaty is legal.
