Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking the world by storm.  This is also true of the gambling and casino sector.

Granted, we are still in the early stages, but with each passing year, the technology continues to evolve.

Personalized Gameplay and AI

One of the critical use cases for Artificial Intelligence with casino gambling is the ability to analyze a player's past behavior.  This could include anything from the type of games preferred to the time spent playing online slot games to the more critical amount being gambled.

With all of this information collected, the casino can then suggest compatible games and bonus rewards.

Ability to Adjust Difficulty of Casino Games

Game difficulty adjustments can be made to casino games in real-time based on the player's performance.  This doesn't just go one way.  AI can make games more challenging for skilled players and easier to basic gamblers.

Fraud Detection and Security

Real-time detection of suspicious transactions, perhaps an unusually large cash deposits or rapid bet fluctuations, can trigger alerts.

Likewise, video analytics using AI can identify suspicious activities like loitering around cash cages

Revenue Forecasting

Artificial Intelligence can assist with a casino's budgeting, including but not limited to cash flow forecasting, expense categorizing, financial risk alerts and funds allocation guidance in an effort to run a more effective operation.

Types of AI Used for Casino Gambling

  • Reactive - These are among the oldest systems with minimal capability to mimic the brain's response to stimuli.
  • Limited Memory - Typically relies heavily on historic data.
  • Theory of Mind - These systems will discern the emotions and needs of gamblers.  However, Theory of Mind is only a concept at this time and likely won't emerge until some time after 2025.
  • Self Aware AI - These systems will build upon the theory of mind concept, making them capable of their own beliefs.
  • Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) - Today's most complex Artificial Intelligence is part of this group. It refers to the goal-oriented version of AI designed to better perform a single task and is widely used in the game of poker.
  • Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) - Will make AI systems capable of human's multi-functional abilities.
  • Artifical Superintelligence (ASI) - Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) is a hypothetical future stage of AI exceeding human intelligence across all aspects.

But Does AI Put Gamblers at a Disadvantage?

The CBS news magazine "60 Minutes" featured a segment heading into last February's Super Bowl describing how most of the major sportsbooks are armed with AI technology coupled with data banks to provide an edge.....not to the gamblers.

Using algorithms powered by AI, the top sports betting apps refresh the odds constantly.  Fans can't possibly calculate whether it's a good bet or bad bet in real time

"Where are these numbers coming from?," reporter Jon Wertheim asked. "How do they know what the odds of Green Bay losing a fumble are?'

"They have access to all of the stats combined with artificial intelligence," gambling therapist Harry Levant noted. "And the ability to predict what will draw the action in.'

The average Joe Gambler doesn't have access to this type of information.  On a smaller scale, however, AI can help improve sports betting predictions.

AI Still Has a Way to Go

For most of us simpletons, we're exposed to AI through search queries.

What better way to ask about AI accuracy than to ask AI itself.

We got this:

"AI search queries can be fairly accurate for basic questions, but can sometimes provide inaccurate or misleading information."

Case in point, we asked if it was okay to take 4 ounces of liquid on a plane in the USA.  Most queries returned answers noting the 3.4 ounce rule, but at least one said 4 ounces is acceptable.
