Here's a shocking revelation. The state of Utah - yes UTAH - ranks number one of all states for most porn viewers on the Internet. It's the most porn-dense state out there - maybe because it's among the fastest growing.
A study by a Harvard Business School professor revealed the stunning findings, according to the Washington Post.
5.5 of every 1,000 broadband-equipped households subscribed to just one porn purveyor's offerings, according to the study. Compare that with the state of Montana where 1.9 of every 1,000 subscribed.
Hawaii, incidentally, ranked in second place as the most porn dense state.
The irony in all of this is that these are the only two states in the U.S. that do not offer a lottery. Gambling in all forms is prohibited in Utah. Whether this is just a coincidental correlation remains to be determined.
Speak to any online gambling site operator - particularly those who specialize in sports betting - and they will tell you than Hawaii ranks as one of the most affluent states in terms of overall bet sizes.
Porn and online gambling are often interlinked, whether fair or not.
By the way, a similar study found that "adult escort sites are more popular in 'blue' states that voted for Kerry in 2004, while visitors from the 'red' states that voted for Bush in 2004 are more likely to visit wife-swapping sites, adult webcams, and sites about voyeurism."
