NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. MGM National Harbor, the region’s hottest new destination resort casino, is celebrating Lunar New Year with festive entertainment, a vibrant Conservatory display and authentic culinary specials.

Each zodiac year is associated with one of five elements of the Chinese Element Theory and 2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster. The rooster occupies the 10th position in the Chinese Zodiac and represents awakening, righteousness and justice. Individuals born in the Year of the Fire Rooster tend to be trustworthy, punctual and professionally responsible.

Visitors to MGM National Harbor will enjoy a multitude of celebratory experiences throughout Lunar New Year.

The Conservatory at MGM National Harbor

Guests from near and far who visit MGM National Harbor this Lunar New Year will be greeted by a rich and warm floral masterpiece. Imagined and designed by renowned event designer Ed Libby, The Conservatory’s Lunar New Year display delights guests with 200,000 flowers and a rich palette of gold, red and orange now through March.

As visitors venture down the grand staircase, they're greeted by a 30-foot tall fire rooster, citrus trees and “Lady Luck,” the Chinese empress, all covered in thousands of flowers. Lush greenery and traditional elements inspired by the holiday fill the space with prosperity and good fortune.

The Conservatory is complimentary and open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Theater at MGM National Harbor

The East Coast’s newest entertainment venue, The Theater at MGM National Harbor, will celebrate Lunar New Year with a performance by Chinese pop rock group Band of Brothers Thursday, February 2. Each member of the band, Edmund Leung, Richie Jen, William So and Steve Wong, has had a career spanning over two decades, releasing more than 80 albums combined. The group name was selected as a representation of the qualities each of the band members possesses as a true man – career, personal life and family life.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Band of Brothers’ one-night-only performance range from $61 to $153, not including applicable fees. For more show and ticket information, visit MGMNationalHarbor.com.

Lion Dance

The resort’s inaugural, dynamic and colorful lion dance, led by the Imperial Lion Dance Team from Worcester, Mass., will take place Friday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m., beginning outside at the Casino Valet entrance.

The four-time New England Lion Dance Competition champions will dazzle guests with a gravity-defying performance featuring the lion dance on traditional high poles. A processional through the casino and The District will follow, concluding at Potomac Plaza with the traditional lettuce and money feeding to promote luck and wealth.

The lion dance is a long-standing tradition and celebrated facet of Chinese culture.
