News that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office has sent shock waves across the globe Thursday morning.
While the former prince has consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with his friendship with the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, concerns about Mountbatten-Windsor’s links to the late financier have dogged the royal family for more than a decade.
But the arrest of a brother of a monarch was an extraordinary development with no precedent in modern times that will no doubt put more pressure on the crown.

Thames Valley Police said that a man in his 60s from Norfolk in eastern England was arrested and remained in custody as standard procedure prevents identifying the former prince by name.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.
“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.
“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”
Following his arrest, King Charles III said that the law must take its course in the investigation.
Prediction market Polymarket is offering trading on whether any other individuals will be jailed over the Epstein Files with the chances still relatively slow at 24% following the arrest of former Prince Andrew. That number was up from 17% just 24 hours ago.
