Smoking is still common in most casinos across the U.S. These days, however, more gamblers are seeking out casinos that offer a less smokey option.
Oklahoma's Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, just 14 miles north of the Texas border, announced plans to convert its Grand Casino floor into a non-smoking area following a six-phase renovation that began in January.
The gaming floor will include 5,400 slots and 83 table games upon completion. The renovation includes the installation of new carpeting, revised walkways, and updated lighting.
Completion is anticipated before the start of summer.
Smoking will still be permitted in designated areas of the casino.
Some of the newer additions are smoke-free, including:
- Sky Casino
- Sky Tower hotel
- Parts of the Link Casino corridor near restaurants and entertainment areas.
While smoking will still be available in designated areas, the vast portion of the casino will become "smoke free".

Oklahoma's Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant Reviews
The reviews of the Choctaw Casino @ Resort are mostly good.
Salvadore' Espina writes of the casino and its current smoking/non-smoking status:
"I never had so much fun spending a weekend at a casino, but I must say I enjoyed it more than flying to Las Vegas, Nevada? The Durant location was truly a gem of a resort with a spa, fitness center, Starbucks, 25 restaurants and bars, concert hall, gift stores, movie theater, two pool areas, neon bowling alley, arcade game area with many games to fill every ages desires? It has a non smoking area with high limit areas to pass the time. I love it and I believe you will too, so come one, come all!"
Pam Goodwin has embraced the expansion here.
"The new section of the casino is beautiful—and completely non-smoking, which is a huge plus. It’s an easy one-hour drive from Dallas with a nice selection of restaurants to choose. Resort pool is wonderful. Unfortunately, the buffet was below average for a casino, and the slots felt tight—they’ll take your money fast! Also, disappointing was the lack of cocktail service walking around the floor."
