Hollywood Casino in PA Abruptly Shuts Down Christmas Day, Gamblers Thrown Out
Talk about a BA HUMBUG! Those who looked forward to celebrating their Christmas Day enjoying their favorite past time, gambling, were in for a rude awakening at one Pennsylvania casino.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Park in Grantville, near the state capital of Harrisburg, abruptly shut its doors Christmas Day. Gamblers inside the establishment were completely caught off guard and forced to exit.
The casino, which normally operates 24/7 and promised to be open on Christmas, blamed the closure on “technical difficulties".
It wasn't immediately how many patrons were in the establishment at the time. A few posted on social media.
The casino said it was operating with a skeleton crew for the holiday and required time to address the matter.
They eventually fixed the issue and posted on Twitter:
"Although we had briefly closed due to a technical issue, we wanted to confirm the casino is currently open. Thank you for your patience and have a great day! Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER".
Back in November, the casino was fined $40,000 for allowing minors to gamble. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said it levied the fine against Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing LLC for three instances of allowing minors to gamble.
It's also not the first time a casino operator in the Keystone State mistreated clientele.
Last April our own Thomas Somach reported on how Unibet sportsbook at the Downs at Lehigh Valley began requiring gamblers to bathe before entering the sportsbook.
In order to prevent “unwanted personal hygiene offenses,” the signs read, bettors are required to “bathe” and “use deodorant.”
The signs also ask Unibet customers to “brush teeth” and “wash and comb hair.”
Hollywood Casino features a variety of entertainment options, including our 2023 Summer Concert Series, live thoroughbred and simulcast racing, and an array of casino game and dining options.
