2009 Belmont Stakes Payouts Look Lucrative

Outside of Mine That Bird, all other contenders promise payouts of $300 or better for every $100 wagered on this coming weekend's Belmont Stakes.  It should be noted that Mine That Bird does pay out better than even odds at Super Book ($150 for every $100 bet).

The next big favorite to win the 2009 Belmont Stakes race is Charitable Man.  SBG Global had Charitable Man paying $320 for every $100 bet at press time.  But lock these odds in now as many speculate the payout odds on Charitable Man will decrease come race time.

Dunkirk, meanwhile, pays $400 for every $100 bet should he win

All other entries pays $1000 or better with the biggest payout potential applied to Luv Gov, which Gamlbing911.com caught with +3000 payout odds ($3000 paid for every $100 bet) at Super Book, whereas some of their competitor were offering Luv Gov as low as +1800 odds.

The 2009 Belmont Stakes race is proving especially popular with gamblers early on compared to previous years.  One reason might be Mine That Bird's upset victory in the Kentucky Derby.  Mine That Bird paid 100/1 odds at some online gambling establishments (50/1 at the track).

The other big interest in the 2009 Belmont Stakes race is the possibility for a Calvin Borel Triple Crown.  The jockey switched horses at the Preakness after winning with Mine That Bird at the Derby.  He rode Rachel Alexandra to victory in the Preakness and now hopes for a repeat of his Derby performance with Mine That Bird.

The big question in everybody's mind (especially those looking for the big Belmont Stakes payouts):  Will history keep Calvin Borel from sweeping the Triple Crown?

From USA Today:

That history has nothing to do with Borel trying to become the first jockey to win the Triple Crown on more than one horse.

There is little denying that the Borel has made no mistakes in this year's Triple Crown winning the Derby on Mine That Bird and then riding the filly Rachel Alexandra to a Preakness victory.

Still, history says the gelding, expected to be favored on Saturday, is fighting other long odds.

In the past 50 years, only eight Derby winners also won the Belmont Stakes. That includes Triple Crown winners Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

And, while the 1 1/2 mile distance seems to be set up for the closing style of Mine That Bird, the opposite has held true.

In the last 50 Belmonts, horses sitting sixth or farther back after a mile have won just eight times.

Front runners sitting first or second after a mile have won 24 Belmonts.
