2012 Jockey Club Gold Cup Odds
Carrie Stroup here and I have your 2012 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes odds for an exciting weekend of Belmont Stakes racing. All odds courtesy of Sportsbook.com, which offers up to a generous 8 percent back on losses and they NEVER REQUIRE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER TO JOIN. Kentucky residents strictly prohibited. We know you’re Horse Country but your governor is being a “you know what” and I’m too much of a lady to say that word.
This is the main event of the fall meeting at Belmont Park and features a purse of $750,000. The Gold Cup is a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The 2012 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes is run on dirt at 1 ¼ miles.
Ron The Greek is the 8/5 favorite with Flat Out at 2/1 and Fort Larned at 5/2 odds.
Six Grade I winners will be racing at the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
“Ron the Greek is one who has always been a deep closer unless he happens to be in a race void of early speed,” trainer Bill Mott said. “A mile-and-a-quarter as opposed to a mile and an eighth, that extra eighth of a mile should help Ron the Greek sustain his run.”
Trainer Bill Mott has both Ron The Greek and Flat Out in the Gold Cup with Flat Out the reigning champion.
"I'm very pleased with the way both of them are coming into the race," said Mott, who won the Gold Cup in 1995 with Hall of Fame horse Cigar. "Flat Out has had a fair amount of time to get over the Whitney. We've had a nice training schedule since then, and obviously he's run well on the track before (winning the Suburban Handicap last year). I mean, that's got to be a bonus anytime you've got one running on any particular track, if they've already been a dual winner there."
