This is a Grade III race taking place at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky. The race is open to three-year-olds willing to race one and one-eighth miles of PolyTrack. The purse is $550,000.
Favored in Saturday’s race is the Todd Pletcher-trained Royal Son at 7/2.
Jenny Rees of the Louisville Courier-Journal writes of Royal Son:
Upside: He was a well-regarded 2-year-old in the deep Todd Pletcher barn and won Turfway's Battaglia with ease while adding blinkers. His 103 BRIS speed figure that day towers over the field and he should thrive at 1 1/8 miles. Pletcher has won this race three times, twice on dirt and last year with We Miss Artie and knows what kind of horse it takes. Downside: His main Battaglia rival, The Great War, bled badly in the race and finished last, providing no competition. Could Royal Son's return race have been too big an effort, as he jumped up 23 BRIS points (and 24 Beyer points) points from his prior race, making him potentially the classic "bounce" candidate? Breaking on the rail, and with Watchyourownbobber and Wireless Future right to his outside, Royal Son likely will be more challenged this go-round.
