The Arkansas Derby is among the most important races leading up to the Kentucky Derby. It is a Grade I race for three-year-olds offering a $1 million purse.
Past winners of the Arkansas Derby have included two Belmont Stakes winners, three Preakness Stakes winners and two Kentucky Derby winners, including Sunny’s Halo in 1983 and Smarty Jones in 2004. The 1994 winner of the Arkansas Derby went on to win that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The favorite to win this year’s Arkansas Derby is Bodmeister at near EVEN odds (-120) while Secret Circle would pay $15 for every $10 bet as the horse with the next shortest odds.
