Best Post Positions of the 2014 Preakness Stakes
The best post position drawn at this year’s Preakness Stakes was without a doubt the number 6 spot, which has yielded a total of 16 winners all time. You can place your Preakness Stakes bets at Sportsbook.com here and receive up to 8% in losses back (rebates).
The horse starting from the 6 spot is a 40/1 long shot and that is Ria Antonia. Oxbow became the 16th horse to win from this position at last year’s Preakness Stakes.
Two other solid post positions are the No. 4 and No. 7 posts, which have each provided 13 winners.
Ring Weekend with 30/1 odds will start from the number 4 spot. Kid Kruz at 20/1 starts at number 7.
Just like with the Kentucky Derby, everyone dreads the number one spot, and with good reason. Only two horses have won from the rail since 1960. Dynamic Impact at 18/1 odds has the honor this year.
California Chrome as no horse has won from the first three posts since 1960 either. California Chrome will be starting from the number 3 spot. General A Rod at 18/1 odds starts from number 2. Eleven horses apiece have won from each of these post positions.
Five of the last six winners of the Preakness have come between posts Number 5 and Number 9.
As for number post number 10, only two horses have won from this position, however, it should be noted that some races involved a smaller field with no horse starting from this spot.
