The race is held at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia.

It is raced on 1-3/16 miles (9.5 furlongs) with a grass track.

The Colonial Turf Cup was formerly restricted to three-year-olds and features a $500,000 purse.

Air Support and Atigun were co-favorites at around 3/1 odds, respectively though Swift Warrior was coming in at 3.5/1 odds at Press time.

Atigun has yet to win a stakes race, finishing third in the 2012 Belmont Stakes. He also enjoyed a fourth place finish in the Travers Stakes and nearly won the Breeders’ Cup Marathon last fall.

Atigun drew post 1 and will be reunited Saturday with jockey Julien Leparoux.

“We’re pleased Julien is back on him,” said Ken McPeek, who trains Atigun, a 4-year-old son of Istan, for the Shortleaf Stable. “He’s run well for Julien before.”

Atigun only has three grass starts under his belt.

The Colonial Turf Cup is a lead-up to the Virginia Derby, which was won by Air Supply in 2011.

“He runs on about anything, but his two races down there were both really strong,” New York-based trainer Shug McGaughey said of Air Supply.
