Odds of a 2010 Triple Crown Winner at 4/1
The odds that there will be a 2010 Triple Crown winner were set at 4/1 for the YES and 1/7 for the NO. In other words, oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com (see website here) overwhelmingly believe that Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver will not go on to win both next weekend's Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
A muddy track at the Derby gave Super Saver a tremendous advantage and many gamblers capitalized on this factor. At one point Super Saver was the most wagered on horse at Churchill Downs despite being far from a favorite to win.
But then we must also look at the Calvin Borel factor. Borel rode Super Saver to victory last Saturday, becoming the first jockey to ever win three of four consecutive Derbies.
Borel predicts Super Saver will go on to win the Triple Crown and he's been right before as the Louisville Courier points out:
Borel predicted a Preakness victory with his 2007 Derby winner Street Sense (which proved a narrow defeat in Maryland). He correctly prophesized Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra would win last year's Preakness. He pretty much guaranteed that Mine That Bird, upon whom he won last year's Derby at 50-1 odds, would win the Belmont Stakes, completing his own personal Triple Crown with two horses. The gelding ran well but finished third.
